The Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis official Japanese social media account released a public announcement regarding the prohibition of access to the game’s servers via VPN (virtual private network). It has been decided that Square Enix will restrict access to the game’s servers via VPN. The reasons cited for these advanced restrictions on VPN usage is that accessing doing so in this manner violates the game’s terms of service.

Here’s the official announcement:

Square Enix explained that this decision was also made due to the detection of a large number of unauthorized accounts that gained access to the Japanese Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis servers. Specifically, connecting to the service using a third party’s server is prohibited by the game’s Terms of Service.

This decision to restrict access via VPN means that global players will not be able to access the Japanese game servers unless they are physically in Japan. Furthermore, global players must only play the game in their specific country. While the official English account hasn’t made any announcement regarding Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis VPN usage yet, it is possible this is a worldwide initiative.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is now available on Android and iOS devices.
