While the console versions of the games pride themselves on accurately-modeled stations, the true joy of Densha de GO! for series fans comes from the management aspect.

Being able to make your stops on time, driving in accordance with the speed limits and rail-route rules, and gradually drawing to a slow halt within close range of the prescribed stopping point at platforms are part of the thrill. Consider the train sections from the The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks — minus the firing cannonballs at helpless bunnies — a very arcadey and brief glimpse into part of what Densha de GO! encompasses.

Published by Taito up until now, the next game, titled Densha de GO! Special Edition Revival! Showa Period Yamanote Line for the DS will be published by Square Enix. Densha de GO! games usually come with special controllers — like this — that die-hard fans prefer to play with, but there hasn’t been mention of one for Showa Period Yamanote Line yet. In fact, the game’s official site shows touch screen train levers and stylus powered switches.

Densha de GO! Special Edition Revival! Showa Period Yamanote Line is scheduled for release on July 22.
