Anime NYC brought with it a number of new announcements. One headliner? The Spy x Family anime adaptation. Crunchyroll confirmed it’s streaming the show at its panel on November 21, 2021. The show’s Japanese run will broadcast in 2022, but overseas services had yet to confirm its addition. Crunchyroll also posted a short teaser on its Twitter account.

The new Spy x Family anime trailer features footage showcasing the core cast: Husband Loid Forger, his wife Yor Forger, and their daughter, Anya. Takuya Eguchi plays the role of Loid. Eguchi also voiced Souei in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Asemu in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE.

Crunchyroll also shared some key art of the family.

The Spy x Family anime adapts the manga series of the same name by Tatsuya Endo. In it, Loid is a spy, code name “Twilight”, working for the nation of Westalis. His assignment, “Operation Strix,” is to infiltrate the country of Ostania. He investigates the movements of Donovan Desmond, a politician who threatens peace efforts in the region. However, Loid can’t do it alone. Operation Strix requires that he assemble a cover family to get into the elite school attended by Desmond’s son.

Loid takes on the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger, marries Yor (who is secretly the assassin codenamed “Thorn Princess”), and adopts Anya (who can read minds with her powers). Now the trio must live together while concealing their true identities.

WIT Studio (Attack on Titan) and Clover Works (Fate/Grand Order: Babylonia) are producing the Spy x Family anime. Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Hunter x Hunter, Gundam Unicorn) will direct. Kazuaki Shimada (The Promised Neverland) is providing character designs.

Spy x Family will air on Crunchyroll in 2022. Viz Media publishes the manga in English via Shonen Jump.
