Splatoon Is A Turf War Game With Cute Ink-Spewing Squid-Like Characters

Splatoon is an upcoming third-person shooter for Wii U that Nintendo revealed this morning. The premise of the game is to claim your turf by splattering as much territory possible with the your four-man team’s color of ink.

In Splatoon, you play as the ink-spewing, squid-like characters called “Inklings,” who participate in 4v4 battles of color-based turf wars. While it might sound pretty simple, there are some strategic elements to keep in mind while playing the game.

For example, covering more territory with ink can unlock powerful super weapons that can be used to attack rivals or cover more turf. However, the Inklings don’t have infinite ammo, so they’ll need to recharge it by standing on top of ink of any color.

By being in your team’s ink color, the Inklings hide from enemies and move faster, or turn into a squid by diving into the ink,

Splatoon has multiple control options on the Wii U GamePad controller, which also includes the gyroscopic controls for better aim and control. The game also has online four-on-four matches.

Splatoon will be released sometime in the first half of 2015 for the Wii U.
