The official statement was made on the same PlayStation Blog entry that, earlier in February 2020, revealed all of the playable demos people would have been able to find at the Sony PAX East 2020 booth.

Here is the statement from Content Communications Manager Justin Massongill:

Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.

Quite a few first and third-party games were going to appear at the Sony PAX East 2020 booth. The Last of Us Part II demo was going to appear and give people about an hour long look at Ellie’s adventure. Persona 5 Royal and Trials of Mana demos were also going to appear there.

PAX East 2020 will be held February 27-March 1, 2020 in Boston, MA.
