In a roundtable discussion with journalists, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House said there are currently no plans to bring the upcoming Sony PlayStation Vita TV to the US or European markets.
Nikkei (via: Endgadget) reported House saying, “SCE will release the PS Vita TV in Japan Nov 14, 2013, and in other countries after that. The reason why it will be launched in Japan earlier than in other countries is that there is no leading company in Japan’s video streaming market. The company is planning to sell the PS Vita TV in China, South Korea, etc, but not in the US and European market at this point.”
The PS Vita TV is a “micro-console” that will allow users to play Vita games on their television. The Vita TV will come without a screen and controller, both of which will need to be acquired separately. Once you have a Dualshock 3 controller, you’ll be able to hook the Vita TV up to your TV screen and play Vita games on it.
Nikkei also report House saying that Sony is “considering” providing PlayStation 3 games via cloud-streaming to the Vita TV in the future. “Technically,’” said House, “the PS Vita TV can support (PS3 games)”.
He also noted that when the Vita TV launches, it will only support the Dualshock 3 controllers, with Dualshock 4 controllers to be supported “in the future.”
