Sony Europe’s next big thing: B-boy

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has been churning out innovative titles that broaden the Playstation’s user base like the Eye Toy games and Singstar. Now SCEE finished work on B-boy, a music / fighting game that embodies breakdance culture. It isn’t played with a dance mat, that would be a disaster. Instead it uses a basic controller set up and a combo structure similar to Tony Hawk. You start a showdown by building up your hype by pressing timed arrows and dissing your opponent by pressing down when the other dancer messes up. Once you are in the ring you start doing top rock and move into the basic six step. From there you can freely chain together power moves like headspins and freezes for style. Remember that hype you built up earlier? It acts as a special meter bar and when it is half full you can pull off special moves. B-boy was designed with help from legendary breaker Crazy Legs. He’s also the host in the game to add some real breakdance culture into the title. The game is already out in Europe and I hope someone picks this up for a North American release.
