About two months ago, we reported that Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, was spearheading a company-wide restructuring and project prioritization at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. One of the branches of Sony affected at the time were Studio Liverpool, responsible for the popular wipEout franchise.
The project prioritization effort involved the cancellation of several games that were in development at SCEE. A LinkedIn resumé belonging to Martin Linklater, former Technical Director at SCEE, leads us to believe one of these may have been an unannounced action game that was being developed for the PlayStation Move. The project is described as follows:
Unannounced Action Project (PS3+???) – Technical Director. Responsible for technical strategy, code evaluation, code architecture, build system, programmer recruitment, appraisals and training. Part of the ‘Product Owner Group’ responsible for setting deliverables and monitoring progress. Worked with new, un- announced hardware. Project halted due to region-wide restructure.
Also mentioned on Mr. Linklater’s resumé is a wipEout game that was being developed for the PlayStation 3, based on the physics and collision system of wipEout Pure for the PSP. While there’s no way to be certain, it appears as though this game was different from wipEout HD — which eventually did see a digital release on the PlayStation Network — as the latter is mentioned in a separate paragraph.
