Oh, Ghosbusters. When will you quit sleeping around and just settle on a publisher? A month before your “happily ever after” moment with Atari and you decide to leave them for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe instead?!
Yes, that’s right. Sony is now publishing the Ghostbusters game instead of Atari in Europe. The PS3 and PS2 versions of the game will ship on June 19 alongside the Blu-ray release of the movie as planned. “In partnership with both Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Inc and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a unique opportunity to add new game products and expand marketing opportunities to reach Ghostbusters fans in Europe,” says Jim Wilson, VP Worldwide Marketing, Atari. A PSP version is now also in development scheduled to ship in autumn 2009.
Wilson continues, “Atari is committed to maximizing the launch of the Ghostbusters videogame across Europe.” “This summer, PlayStation owners will be the first to grab their proton packs and fight the spirit world,” says Mark Hardy, European Product Marketing Director at SCEE. Keywords: “committed” and “first”. Sounds like a timed PAL exclusive.
The Xbox 360, Wii, and DS versions will still ship alongside the PS3 and PS2 versions in North America on June 16. No details were given about the status of the PSP version overseas.
Update: Atari sent a press release explaining they will publish all versions of Ghostbusters in North America. This includes the PSP version which will be released worldwide in autumn 2009.
