More information has surfaced recently regarding the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and it seems that the movie will follow a buddy cop format, with Sonic being characterized as a ‘delinquent’. [Thanks, TSSZ!]

The information comes from a Deadline article citing Paramount Pictures president Jim Gianopulos, who shared how he was sold on Sonic’s story after watching a short clip showing off the tone and theme of the movie.

He said, “He’s a juvenile delinquent on the adventures in a pretty straight rural environment with a local policeman. It was instantly engaging and it was good enough where you could see where it’s going.”

The Wrap also featured an article on the conference Gianopulos attended, where Neil Moritz, producer of the movie, said, “What we’re trying to do with Sonic is make a movie about a small-town police officer and Sonic at a time when they are both desperately in need of a friend, and we hope that this theme is friendship is what gives the film its heart and makes it prosper.”

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie hits theatres in November 15, 2019. Previously, James Marsden was confirmed to be starring in the movie.
