As it turns out, Maradona has threatened to sue Konami due to alledly using his likeness in Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 without his permission. While his likeness appeared in previous games, they used fictional names. This time wasn’t the case in PES 2017 as he appears with his name as one of the “Legends” in the game’s myClub Mode.

Here’s what Maradona shared on his official Facebook page:

I heard yesterday that the Japanese company Konami uses my image for its game PES 2017. Unfortunately, my lawyer Matias Morla will initiate the corresponding legal actions. I hope this is not another scam…

Additionally, Maradona’s lawyer Mrola has vowed to “crack down” on Konami. However, Konami’s Tokyo headquarters put out a statement explaining their side of things:

At this time, there have been news that in Winning Eleven 2017 (international title: PES 2017 Pro Evolution Soccer) there is one player that is being used without permission; however, our company is using [this player] appropriately, with the basis of the license within the contract.

Pro Evolution Soccer is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
