Earlier in the month, we reported that Lab Zero and Autumn Games, the developer and owner of Skullgirls respectively, had ended their business contract with Konami. As a result, Skullgirls will be delisted from Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, with a new version of the game, now published by Autumn, scheduled to replace it soon.
Today, Lab Zero and Autumn announced further details outlining this process. For starters, the new version of the game will be titled Skullgirls Encore, and will be available sometime in January, although a date hasn’t been specified yet. Current owners of Skullgirls will have access to Encore fore free.
If you own Skullgirls on Xbox Live Arcade, the Encore version will be a patched version of the original, meaning that your save data, achievements and leaderboards will remain intact, and all previous DLC will be compatible with Encore as well.
Meanwhile, on PSN, Skullgirls Encore will be a new build of the game that is incompatible with the original Skullgirls. As a result, your previous save data, trophies, leaderboards and DLC will not be compatible with Encore. To make up for this, the Squigly character DLC and character colour DLC will be free on both Xbox Live and PSN for a limited time.
Additionally, Lab Zero add that If you wish to continue playing the original Skullgirls on PSN, you’ll be able to redownload it from your Downloads list and still play it. More details on how Skullgirls Encore is being handled on both platforms can be found here. Note that the PC version of Skullgirls will remain unaffected throughout this process.
