ps4 game of the year chicory

Winner: Chicory: A Colorful Tale

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a triple threat. It has a snazzy aesthetic that you can help to build, and it has a deep message about mental health. And people know that about it! But the third thing? It’s a heck of a lot of fun to play. The controls are smooth, the level design is clever, and the co-op is top-notch too. If Chicory somehow managed to slip by you at release, don’t make that same mistake now.

neo the world ends with you

NEO The World Ends With You

Who would have thought that we’d ever get a sequel to The World Ends With You? It’s a miracle that NEO TWEWY even exists. So it also being a top-flight JRPG in its own right? We’re truly blessed. It translates the combo-based gameplay and signature style to the modern era faithfully, but newcomers will find a lot to love even without that nostalgia.

nier replicant

NieR Replicant

Yoko Taro is truly something special, and more people know that these days than they did at the original release of NieR. Replicant — you know what, we’re giving it an award, sure, let’s use the full name — NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… makes it easier for people to enjoy its narrative, and it augments and smooths out elements to make it more integrated and modern. It’s an emotional game! And all these things help NieR get out of its own way and deliver that emotion to players.
