Our PC Game of the Year 2020 picks really show the breadth of what PC gaming can mean. Is it a cross-platform, console-and-mobile hit made better with pure PC power and versatility? A long-developed, deep experience made possible through Early Access? Or hey: what about an MMO? The PC has it all, often literally. All three of these games are deserving of praise.
These awards represent the consensus of the Siliconera staff. For more of the year’s award selections, check out our Game of the Year 2020 archive.
Winner: Genshin Impact
What makes Genshin Impact so special? Is it the huge character variety? Is it the constantly-updating assortment of quests and fights? It’s hard to say, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that it feels so good to move around the world and pull off elemental combos. Whether or not you engage with the game’s real-world economy, you’ll find a lot to play and enjoy in Genshin Impact. With so many more regions and characters to come, we haven’t seen the last of this one.
Hades
The love for Hades wouldn’t be there without its solid underlying gameplay, but what really sets it apart is its storytelling. Sure, you’ll go on a lot of varied interesting runs with new Boons and weapons, but it keeps you coming back with its well-written characters and top-flight voice acting. It holds your attention. It doesn’t let go.
Phantasy Star Online 2
For many fans of Phantasy Star Online 2, they’re relieved that it’s a game of a year. After years of waiting and rumors, the game finally saw its Western release this year, and it brought with it a huge backlog of content to explore. It may be showing its age a bit, but for a lot of players, it’s better late than never.
