When Square Enix unveiled Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin? It didn’t interest me at all. While Team Ninja’s involvement had piqued my curiosity, the initial trailer had me feeling lukewarm. Now my opinion has completely shifted on the game after seeing a clip on Twitter regarding the second demo that released during Tokyo Game Show 2021.

The moment of Jack Garland exiting the scene accompanied by what is probably going to be an absolutely corny nu-metal song made me immensely excited for the game. I love camp, and I love things that are self-serious enough to be endearing. I think that, if anything, Stranger of Paradise is going to be just that. So I’m looking forward to the game’s release! — Kazuma

triangle strategy square enix

I have high hopes for Triangle Strategy. The demo is pretty solid! And Square Enix is doing its thing, using feedback from it to make the final game better. I’ve been yearning for another Final Fantasy Tactics-style title. Maybe this will be it? (But also if Square Enix wants to shadowdrop a Final Fantasy Tactics Advance collection on the Switch next year, I won’t complain!) — Jenni

most anticipated 2022 relayer

Mecha strategy RPGs seem to have gained a resurgence in recent years. We had SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays released in 2019, and Super Robot Wars 30 came out last October. Both titles are available worldwide on PCs. But now my sights are aimed towards Relayer, which will appear globally on the PS5 and PS4 next February. I’m curious to see how the God Wars team transitions from a Japanese folklore story to space mecha combat. And I hope it can get some spotlight before Triangle Strategy completely buries the competition in March. — Kite

most anticipated games of 2022 granblue fantasy relink

I had quite a few games lined up in the 2022 window to highlight, like Elden Ring or the recently announced Dune: Spice Wars or Homeworld 3, but then Cygames had to go and blow everything in that queue out of the water by confirming Granblue Fantasy: Relink for the same year.

As far as writing and mood have gone, Granblue is easily one of the best recent JRPGs that a lot of people outside Japan and the overseas otaku contingent haven’t played yet, despite having one of the best localizations in the field and gorgeous art. GBVS has opened cracks in that wall, but I’m hoping Relink (coupled with official support for overseas account creation in Granblue proper) will be what’s needed to get it out there. — Josh

most anticipated games of 2022 advance wars

There are a lot of cool games coming in 2022, but if I’m honest, I only have eyes for one. Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is the return of one of my favorite franchises after way too long, and as much as I’ve loved revisiting the GBA originals recently, the series needs a wider audience to find new life. A solid Switch entry will, hopefully, do just that. — Graham
