The interview starts with Okamoto discussing how both Konami and Bloober Team felt about changing the original game. Some of the Japanese staff members working on the game, including artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, were open to changes and additions.

As for Bloober Team, the developers insisted on keeping some elements from the original untouched in the remake. This lead to occasional clashes of opinions, but Okamoto said the developers managed to find a common ground. Furthermore, because Bloober Team is a fan of Silent Hill 2, they ended up with a game that highly respects the original.

Regarding these changes, the producer revealed that the intro in Silent Hill 2 remake has been kept almost the same. One of the key differences comes from the first combat encounter. Because there is not a big focus in combat in Silent Hill 2, the development team wanted to make it so the first encounter appears later in the game than in the original. At first, the introduction to combat happened quite later than in the original game. However, the developers were worried that the game might be too boring, so they decided against having the first enemy appearing too late.

When asked if the game will include new enemies or monsters, Okamoto said that it was tempting, but they decided against it. Because every enemy in Silent Hill 2 is very deliberate and has a meaning to the narrative of the game, adding new creatures would have been impossible. However, Okamoto said that the familiar monsters and creatures might have new or different movements from the original game.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will appear on October 8, 2024 for the PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. A new gameplay trailer appeared during the latest Sony State of Play.
