Showtime steps into the gaming business

The movie channel that reruns movies you already own on DVD has a new service scheduled in 2007 for gamers. A new gaming channel is being created to bring video games to homes with high speed internet. On top of games they are going to have other “gaming related” content like reviews, tips and cheats. Showtime has not announced a monthly fee, but they said some games would be free to play while others would require a subscription. The problem with this service is Showtime is real late to the punch. GameTap has been doing this for quite sometime and have amassed a huge library of titles to show off. They even have key exclusives like Sam & Max to entice gamers to give it a shot. Unless Showtime gets some original content of their own they are going to have a difficult time selling this to gamers. Perhaps games based on Dead Like Me or the L Word would spice Showtime’s product up.
