Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Features Roguelite and Puzzle Gameplay

One of Yacht Club Games’ new announcements during its second Yacht Club Presents game presentation was Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, a new tale with roguelite and puzzle gameplay elements. Like Shovel Knight Dig which is being developed by Nitrome alongside Yacht Club, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is being developed by indie developer Vine alongside Yacht Club.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon will feature in another quest for treasure, but he’ll have to fight multiple waves of enemies, and bosses both old and new in order to succeed. Players will need to move Shovel Knight across the square-shaped map as enemies continuously spawn, and use both skills and items to clear enemies and prevent yourself from being swarmed. (Note that despite Jake Kaufman’s catchy soundtrack, the game doesn’t seem to be rhythm-based in the same vein as Crypt of the NecroDancer.)

Treasure chests containing items, potions, and keys will also drop down to help you out, so players must prioritize on the fly, especially when facing off against bosses or against other players in competitive 2P mode. Over 10 characters across the Shovel Knight series are playable, and each character has their own power and playstyle.

Meanwhile, in Story Mode, Shovel Knight will need to work alongside the mysterious Puzzle Knight in order to complete the mazes – but it seems that there’s more to Puzzle Knight than meets the eye.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is in development. The game has TBD listed for both release date and platforms, but is all but confirmed for Nintendo Switch, as a demo of the game on Switch will be available at PAX East.
