After arriving in the Capital in Dragon’s Dogma 2, a guard named Norman will ask you if you’ve seen a boy in a cap running by. This guide will explain whether you should lie or tell the truth in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and break down the best choice.
Should you “Lie” or “Tell the Truth” in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
One of the first story choices you have in Dragon’s Dogma 2 happens early on after arriving at Vernworth Capital. On your way to speak to Captain Brant, a cutscene will trigger with a guard named Norman chasing after a young boy. The Vernworth guard will ask, “Did you see an urchin in a cap run past just now?”
Players will then be given a choice between “Lie” or “Tell the Truth.” If you were paralyzed by choice in this moment, you are not alone! After all, we just set foot in a major city, and surely lying to the guards has major consequences, right? Well, the choice you make here doesn’t actually matter very much. Both answers lead to the same results, you just get different dialogue. However, there is a more “correct” choice, in my humble opinion, which I’ll explain below.
What happens if you lie to Norman in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
As stated above, there are no consequences for telling the truth or lying. However, in my opinion, the best choice here is to “lie” to Norman in Dragon’s Dogma 2. From a plot perspective, the boy you just lied for will later become an ally. Following this story decision, you can find the boy named Sven in the Vernworth Marketplace. He will be arguing with a vendor.
If you speak to Sven after this, you will get the “Ornate Box” quest. Go up to the vendor, purchase the Ornate Box, and then give it to Sven for free. A few days later, the character will reveal his true identity, and you will be rewarded with “Courtly Attire.” These clothing pieces are needed to “attend the Masquerade” in the “Stolen Throne” main quest. To be clear, you can still get the “Ornate Box” quest even if you tell Norman the truth. If you decide not to lie, you aren’t blocked from any quests or story progressions. So, ultimately, it doesn’t really matter which option you pick here. However, I still think telling a “lie” to protect Sven makes the most sense, as he will become a pivotal character you get to know more later on.
