In your travels in the Lands of Shadow, you’ll come across some tough choices. So, when you’re presented with the option to Devour Draconic Essence in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, should you do it?
How do I get Draconic Essence in the Elden Ring DLC?
First, you’ll need to find the Dragon Communion Priestess, located at the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. Start your journey from the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace and follow the path toward Jagged Peak. After defeating the Jagged Peak Dragon, take the path southward to the Grand Altar, where you can interact with the Priestess. Here, you can exchange Dragon Hearts for dragon-based spells.
The Priestess is interested in killing Bayle the Dread, a formidable foe who once clashed with her lord, Placidusax. She then offers the option to devour Draconic Essence. Though you can decline, there is no downside for accepting her offer. This grants you the Ancient Dragon’s Blessing.
This powerful boon allows you to consume FP to boost all types of damage negation. The blessing is a consumable item so you’ll want to use it carefully. However, once you’ve used it you can return to the priestess to get another.
How do I finish the Dragon Communion Priestess quest in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
To finish out the Priestess quest, you’ll need to kill Bayle at the top of Jagged Peak. Easier said than done, he’s one of the hardest bosses in the entire DLC. However, when you do defeat him it’s worth it.
If you defeat Bayle, return to the Dragon Communion Priestess to receive a Priestess Heart and the Flowerstone Gavel weapon. The Priestess Heart is particularly intriguing, as it allows you to transform into a dragon if you remove all your armor.
Ultimately, choosing to devour Draconic Essence offers significant advantages, including enhanced damage negation and aligns you with the Dragon Communion Priestess’s questline.
Elden Ring and the Shadow of Erdtree DLC are available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
