By While Nippon Ichi Software is best known for Disgaea they also have a long running horror game series called Hayarigami where you investigate Japanese urban legends using logic.
Shin Hayarigami is the first Hayarigami game in five years (the last release was Hayarigami 3 for PSP) and it’s probably the most gruesome since it’s rated CERO Z, which is similar to an Adults Only rating by the ESRB.
Games that show graphic violence like No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise and Grand Theft Auto V bear this rating in Japan. Since Shin Hayarigami is essentially a horror visual novel it’s a surprising rating and this may even be the first visual novel with a CERO Z rating. Corpse Party games are rated CERO D and earlier Hayarigami titles CERO C, for ages 15 and up.
Nippon Ichi Software’s goal with Shin Hayarigami was to explore fear and the rating suggests the game will be quite graphic. Shin Hayarigami is scheduled to come out on August 7 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
