Sega have announced Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown as an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game for the U.S and Europe. An expansion to Virtua Fighter 5, it will overhaul the game’s fighting system, character balance and even animations.

Also added to Final Showdown will be new modes, new stages, and two new characters — Taka Arashi (Virtua Fighter 3) and Jean Kujo (a new character ). A large collection of items to customize characters with will also be available.

Certain arenas will now have fences and walls that are different in each round. Playable characters will have new wall-based moves, which you’ll be able to use on these, or break through the walls entirely, using special moves.

Sega also mention that Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown will feature simplified controls for new players. They plan to release the game in summer 2012.
