In Japan Sega has been remaking some of their older games into 3D and polishing/repackaging their Saturn games on the PS2 as part of the Sega Ages collection. There are some absolutely brilliant games released in the series such as Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection, Vol. 25: Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box and my favorite Vol. 18: Dragon Force. Over at Hardcore Gaming 101, Kurt Kalata compiled a lengthy article featuring all of the Playstation 2 Sega Ages series to date. Worth it? – Hell yes. It still might be too brutally difficult for most novice RPGers, but the graphical facelift, quicker walking speed and slightly faster battles definitely makes this superior to the original. The quest is mostly the same as the original, so the language barrier shouldn't be a problem if you use a guide.
I agree about the difficulty of Phantasy Star II, it’s probably too tough for people who are used to playing RPGs just for their story. However, if you’re a hardcore RPG fan go get it and prove your level grinding skills!
