Save Me Mr. Tako will return to digital storefronts on May 5, 2021 as with a Definitive Edition. Both Nintendo Switch and Steam copies will appear again, following the Nicalis delisting it after Christophe Galati and the company went separate ways. Galati confirmed the new game will include fixes and new features. Limited Run Games announced it will offer Switch physical copies. However, people who owned the original game will have to buy it again if they want new patches and additions.

The basics of Save Me Mr. Tako will remain the same. He’s still the lone octopus who realizes maybe humans and octopuses shouldn’t fight, and you go through its Game Boy-style levels to fight enemies, handle puzzles, use special abilities, and bring peace to both realms. In the new version, you will have Classic, Heart Mode, and Standard difficulty levels. There are new border options and color palette options. A new English localization is there. It will have a hint system in place too.

Galati also explained why people who already owned Save Me Mr. Tako would have to buy the Definitive Edition again. Because of the delisting, it isn’t possible to patch the old game. Galati did mention, “I contacted both Valve and Nintendo to see if I could do a special discount for players with the original version in their library but unfortunately it’s impossible.”

Save Me Mr. Tako: Definitive Edition will appear on the Switch and PC on May 5, 2021. Limited Run Games physical Switch copies will also eventually appear.
