Sanrio has launched Charaforio, a new art site for both official and fan art. It’s available in both English and Japanese.
As of the time of writing, the fanart available on the site are of Show By Rock!!, Arknights, and VTubers. You can also upload or look at people’s original artwork and characters. Charaforio does not allow users to post AI-generated works, or works that feature generative AI in any way. You also cannot use any of the works on Charaforio to teach AI.
In comparison to Pixiv, which generally lets you post whatever you want, Charaforio is stricter about official guidelines. For example, the Nyantasia page includes an introduction of what it is, along with links to its social media platforms and its guidelines. Arknights is the same, as it includes a link to Yostar’s rules regarding fan materials. While people should obey guidelines when making fanart due to the many legal gray zones that exist (and to keep fandoms a pleasant and enjoyable experience), other sites don’t remind users of any official guidelines that exist.
Other things to keep note of is that Charaforio does not allow IPs that might be harmful to anyone under the age of 15. This includes IPs that contain scenes of bullying, self-harm, murder, or drug use. Because of these rules, some IPs like Persona 3 might not be allowed on the website. You also cannot upload R-18 content.
It’s very easy to make an account on Charaforio, though you are free to look at all of the fanart even without one.
