Officially revealed in the February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Samurai Warriors 5 and its characters like Oichi and Azai Nagamasa have a new art direction based on Japanese painting techniques. The game will be the first new mainline entry in the series since Samurai Warriors 4, back in 2014. As for the game’s story, Samurai Warriors 5 will focus on Mitsuhide Akechi and Nobunaga Oda. The title will retell the events leading up to the Honno-Ji incident during the Sengoku period from two different perspectives.
Additionally, Koei Tecmo has partnered with many IP holders to create series like Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, and One Piece: Pirate Warriors. Koei Tecmo’s studios like Team Ninja and Omega Force often develop these titles.
Samurai Warriors 5 will launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The Japanese release date is June 24, 2021, while overseas territories will see the game release one month after on July 27, 2021.
