Kodansha Manga announced that Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie will appear on Netflix on June 3, 2021. The tweet included a link to a trailer for the movie posted on Netflix Anime’s YouTube channel. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie is a two-part film that is based on the “Dream” arc, also known as the Dead Moon arc, of Sailor Moon.
At over a minute long, the teaser gives a good idea of the movie’s animation. It shows off the girls’ special attacks and transformation sequences. Befitting its worldwide release on Netflix, the teaser also starts off with Sailor Moon saying her signature catchphrase, “In the name of the moon, I’ll punish you,” in multiple languages.
You can watch the teaser here:
In the original Sailor Moon manga by Naoko Takeuchi, the Dream arc ran for 11 chapters. Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon SuperS, which ran for 39 episodes from 1995 to 1996, also covers this arc. Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie appeared in Japanese movie theaters earlier in 2021 but this is the first time the movies are debuting in other territories.
Chiaki Kon is the director for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie. She also directed The Way of the Househusband, which is currently airing on Netflix, and she took over the third season of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal after its previous director left the show.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie will start streaming worldwide on Netflix on June 3, 2021.
