Rune Factory 4 is the best-selling game in the series thus far, producer, Yoshifumi Hashimoto, reveals on the series’ blog, confirming what we already knew. The game debuted with 85,955 copies sold in its first week back in July.
As previously reported, that’s a higher opening than any of the previous Rune Factory games. Here’s a look at how the games’ first-week sales compare:
(2006) Rune Factory – 42,210
(2008) Rune Factory 2 – 52,049
(2009) Rune Factory 3 – 41,279
(2012) Rune Factory 4 – 85,955
As of August 19th, Rune Factory 4 has sold 135,376. That’s already well beyond Media Create’s recorded lifetime sales for Rune Factory 2, which was the best-selling game in the series prior to Rune Factory 4.
Rune Factory 2’s lifetime sales are recorded at 117,572 (note that the actual figure is probably higher than that, considering Media Create don’t count Amazon sales and so forth). Rune Factory 4 looks like it will easily break the 150k mark.
So, are we getting a Rune Factory 5? Of course! Hashimoto has already hinted that a sequel is likely on its way at some point in time.
