Guatamala’s MAX added two product listings for a potential Prince of Persia remake. There’s one for the Nintendo Switch and another for the PlayStation 4. Each one has a tentative November 2020 release window and has the following image associated with it. [Thanks, Ken Xyro, Resetera, and Jason Schreier!]
While these could be an error or a placeholder, what’s interesting is that Bloomberg News’ Jason Schreier commented on the retailer leak. In his tweet, he said, “Video game retailers sure love leaking Ubisoft’s surprise announcements.” As a reminder, Far Cry 6 recently was leaked ahead of its official announcement by the Hong Kong PlayStation Store listing.
There have been rumors for a while that a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake could be in the works. For example, on Reddit a user named DenseEquation said in March 2020 that Ubisoft is working on a remake for the 2020 holiday season. That rumor included a piece of “concept art” that is identical to the image in the MAX product listings for this Prince of Persia remake, only the MAX images have the logo over them.
At the moment, the only confirmed Prince of Persia from Ubisoft is Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time. It was announced back in February 2020 and, while it was supposed to launch in around 300 locations in Spring 2020, has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it did get a new trailer in August 2020.
