Ruan Mei Works on All Teams in Honkai: Star Rail

In Honkai: Star Rail, Ruan Mei is a character who can fit on most teams due to her unique buffs and kit. She works particularly well as one of multiple support characters in a hyper-carry team.

The bulk of Ruan Mei’s utility comes from her Skill and Ultimate. Her Skill, which can last three turns, increases her allies’ DMG and Weakness Break Efficiency. A higher Weakness Break Efficiency lets characters reduce enemy Toughness faster. As of Version 1.6, she is the only way to increase this outside the Simulated Universe.

Meanwhile, her Ultimate lasts two turns. It increases all allies’ All-Type RES PEN and triggers a Weakness Break again after they recover from one. As such, when you’re putting Ruan Mei on a team, you should ensure you can hit the enemy’s Weakness to take full advantage of her kit.

Here are some teams to consider for Ruan Mei in Honkai: Star Rail

  • Jingliu | Ruan Mei | Silver Wolf | Gepard
This is a mono-Ice team, with Silver Wolf planting an Ice Weakness in enemies that don’t have it. Gepard works as the main sustain, while Jingliu is the DPS. Ruan Mei serves as the support. You can also substitute Silver Wolf for Pela if you’re sure the enemy has an Ice Weakness. Conversely, you can substitute Gepard for Fu Xuan. When working with Silver Wolf, the fewer elements, the better since it raises the chances of her implanting a Weakness you can reliably hit.
  • DPS | Ruan Mei | Bronya | Huohuo
Normally, two Harmony characters are redundant because they kind of do the same thing. However, Ruan Mei’s buffs (All-Type RES PEN, Weakness Break Efficiency) are so unique that she doesn’t step on her fellow Harmony characters’ toes. She can also provide a SPD boost, which is not a very common buff. Because Huohuo, who is more a support than a healer, is not a reliable sustain, you can replace her with a better one if you’re unsure about this team’s survivability. As for your DPS, you can use anyone you want.
  • Firefly | Harmony Trailblazer | Ruan Mei | Gallagher
This is a Firefly hyper-carry team that focuses very hard on both Break Effect and Super Break. Ruan Mei is the optimal support for this team due to her various buffs (All-Type Res PEN and such) fitting with Super Break requirements. As well, Gallagher and Harmony Trailblazer can increase Firefly’s Break Effect, which is what she wants much more than Crit DMG or DMG increase (from other Harmony characters such as Sparkle or Robin).
  • Dr. Ratio | Topaz | Ruan Mei | Aventurine
Ruan Mei is a very good support for a follow-up attack team for those who don’t have Robin. A lot of her buffs fill a similar niche, though you will miss out on the Crit DMG increase on follow-up attacks from Robin, as well as the extra damage from her Ultimate. In general, Ruan Mei is just a very good support for any team in this game.
  • Kafka | DoT Sub-DPS | Ruan Mei | Huohuo
As you can see in the above teams, Ruan Mei works well in a normal party but also does fantastic as a support for DoT teams. You inflict most DoTs in the game through Weakness Break, and her ability to accelerate Weakness Break means she can set up a DoT team much faster. Her Ultimate also extends how long Break lasts, which is very useful. DoT sub-DPS characters you can run with Kafka include Sampo and Guinaifen.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. You can only pull for Ruan Mei in Honkai: Star Rail when the “Floral Triptych” Character Event Warp is active.
