RoVR looks to give players a Nintendogs-like experience in virtual reality, giving players a puppy to feed, train, and raise, as well as a colorful world to take them for a walk in.

Beginning with a box marked ‘Free Puppies’, players will pick up their digital companion, starting a VR life with their pet. Players will be able to explore an open world to get their dog pet food and meet neighboring NPCs and their pets, take their dog to a park to play fetch, give them a bath when they misbehave and make a mess of themselves, or just go out for a walk in the sunshine. RoVR aims to capture all of what it means to have a pet.

Part of that comes from creating an AI that responds to how the player interacts with the dog. From pleasing petting to using hand gestures to teach the dog tricks, players will slowly be able to raise their dog into an obedient animal, one that can be taken to shows to demonstrate the things they’ve learned. Also, the dog will learn from all of the petting, treats, and affection the player showers on it, growing attached to them as well.

Players can customize their pets with various costumes they unlock as they play, and can use an in-game camera to take pictures of them to share online.

RoVR is raising development funding for its puppy-raising experience on Kickstarter. The game is currently slated to release in March of 2018
