Check out the new trailer from Kadokawa Games below:

Root Film features the male protagonist Rintaro Yagumo, a rising filmmaker who has been in a bit of a slump. Riho is the female protagonist. She’s a talented actress who debuted as an actress when she was 17-years-old.

While Root Film is unrelated to Root Letter it is also set in Shimane Prefecture of Japan. Things aren’t going well for Rintaro but he finds an opportunity to land a job as a director for a revival of the “Mystery Drama TV Project”. As part of the project, Rintaro will need to compete with two other famous directors to get the role. However, things go downhill pretty quickly when a murder occurs and puts Rintaro in his own real-life mystery drama.

While we don’t get to see much of it, the game introduces a “Max Mode” system towards the end of the trailer, where you see a Detective Conan-style suspect. This mode puts the protagonist and another character in a verbal dispute with a bit of a fighting game style to it.

Root Film will release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on July 30, 2020.
