Root Film Reels Back Release Date to July 30, 2020 in Japan

Root Film

Kadokawa Games’ upcoming Root Film mystery game has been delayed to July 30, 2020 from its initially announced April 23 release date. The announcement was made via the game’s official website earlier this week. Kadokawa Games apologized for making eager fans and all involved wait, and hopes that players can wait patiently so that they can produce a great, fun mystery title.

While Root Film is unrelated to the previous game in the series, Root Letter, it does also take place in the Shimane Prefecture in Japan. In this title, you play as earnest-but-down-in-the-dumps filmmaker Rintarou Yagumo, who ekes out a living, but immediately jumps at the opportunity to compete against other directors to nab the role as director for a ‘Mystery Drama TV Project’ that was previously cancelled in production in the past. However, a murder occurs, and now Rintarou finds himself stuck in a mystery drama in real life that’s not of his own making.

Root Film will come to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan on April 23, 2020, with preorders starting on December 25, 2019 in the region. It will come to both consoles in North America and Europe in 2020, and is also getting two Asian releases in Traditional Chinese and Korean respectively.
