Rinoa Heartilly of Final Fantasy VIII is best known for two things. One is being the main heroine. The other is having a useful dog. Rinoa’s canine buddy Angelo is her constant companion throughout FFVIII, and his presence forms a big part of her unique combat style. Now mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is taking that partnership to its fantastical extreme, thanks to the newly added Neo Vision Rinoa with Angelo Cannon. Known as NV Rinoa & Angelo, the new unit appeared in the Japanese edition of the game on October 28, 2021.
Square Enix previewed the new FFVIII alum via an official tweet. It showed off their CG-enhanced limit break movie. Rinoa is voiced by actress Kana Hanazawa, who also voiced Riona in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT and Opera Omnia. She also voiced Ichika Nakano from The Quintessential Quintuplets.

The movie showed the pair performing a combo of their two most powerful Final Fantasy VIII tricks: The Angelo Cannon and Wishing Star. Angelo Cannon lets Rinoa load her pet pal onto the blaster edge weapon on her arm. She then launches the puppy projectile into an enemy, following up by riding Angelo to deliver an omni-directional dog-mounted beatdown.
NV Rinoa & Angelo isn’t the only new Final Fantasy Brave Exvius character to be added. The same wave of content brought Neo Vision updates for Lone Lion Squall and Zell, two more FFVIII characters. A new version of Noctis from FFXV was also added in April 2021.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is available on Android and iOS. NV Rinoa & Angelo is available in Japan, though its Global release date is unconfirmed.
