ReVeN, The Metroid-Inspired Action Platformer, Is Coming Along Nicely

ReVeN, the indie title channeling the spirit of Metroid, Crysis and Deus Ex, is funded. Additionally, the developers have shared an alpha video of how the game works. The cool bit: seeing how the re-routing of power systems will work.

Yes, you’ll have to re-route power to be able to perform abilities such as jumping higher or running faster, and even upgrade your existing abilities. This is done by using different suits—called “Gears”—in the game, each one with its own special abilities.

Part of the reason we’re intrigued is that beyond just powering up yourself, you’ll also be able to swap “gears”, or armor suits. These do different things, such as the Spark Gear’s anti-lightning effects or the Mach gear’s superspeed and jumping, and help players overcome different areas. Weapons like the Flamestrike, too, serve a purpose other than simply blowing stuff up.

ReVeN is in development for PC and Wii U. The game is planned for release in 2016, although if the team hits its stretch goal of $37,000 on Kickstarter, they’ll be able to speed development up, and release it in 2015 instead.
