The upcoming Resident Evil live action movie, Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City, has been delayed. Originally slated to release on September 3, the film will now release on November 24, 2021. Sony has not provided a statement as to why the release date of the film has been pushed back. [Thanks, Variety!]
The upcoming film is a blend of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2, sampling from both respective storylines and casts. The full title of the film was announced at an online SXSW event. Characters that will appear in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City include Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Albert Wesker. Details regarding who had been cast for the respective roles were previously shared. However, concerns regarding COVID-19 initially caused delays in casting for the upcoming Resident Evil movie.
The live action Resident Evil film isn’t the only piece of Resident Evil extended media in the works. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an upcoming Resident Evil series scheduled to release through the Netflix streaming service. The upcoming series will star Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, with the voice actors from Resident Evil 2: Remake reprising their respective roles.
