Last November, VGC reported that a Resident Evil 3 remake was in the works, and its latest rumor comes from “multiple development sources” who told the website that the Resident Evil 4 remake is in the works. To be more specific, it has entered full production with an estimated release window of 2022.

It is understood that the remake has the blessing of Shinji Mikami who directed the original Resident Evil 4. However, when approached to lead the project, Mikami declined but instead has provided some advice on its direction.

The Resident Evil 3 remake was worked on by M-Two, the Capcom-backed studio founded by former PlatinumGames CEO Tatsuya Minami, as well as Capcom, K2 Inc, and Redworks. The studio consists of numerous PlatinumGames and Capcom employees. There’s no further information for the Resident Evil 4 remake, but it has reportedly been under preparation since 2018.

Resident Evil 4 originally released for the GameCube in January 2005. It followed with a PlayStation 2 release later in 2005, PC and Wii in 2007, then PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2011. The game released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2016, and more recently the Nintendo Switch in May 2019.
