There’s a new Rei Ayanami Nendoroid on the way and, well, people who haven’t seen any of the Rebuild of Evangelion movies might want to avoid looking at a lot of her pictures. The figure, which is expected to launch in Japan in February 2021 and North America in March 2021, is based upon the the character’s depiction in Evangelion 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo and the forthcoming Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time.
This Rei Ayanami Nendoroid is wearing her new plugsuit. She has three face plates, with one having a (sad) neutral expression, another having a (sad) downcast expression, and the third making her look rather determined and angry. She has a black scythe she can wield and, should you want to make it look like she’s in battle, you can pop her in the entry plug and put on her backpack. (Sorry, folks. There’s no “robot” for her to get into.)
Here’s the full gallery of initial Rei images.
While there have been Good Smile Company Rei Ayanami figures before, this is the first one of her in a full plugsuit. One Nendoroid had her in her school uniform, while another had her in an Evangelion Racing outfit inspired by her original plugsuit.
The Rebuild of Evangelion Rei Ayanami Nendoroid has a February 2021 release window for Japan and March 2021 release window for North America. Pre-orders are open until September 23, 2020, and she costs $55.99 at the Good Smile Company Shop. As for the fourth and final movie, Evangelion 3.0+1.0, it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and does not yet have a new release date.
