Puella Magi Madoka Magica 10th Anniversary Project

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 10th Anniversary Project Is Underway

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime first aired ten years ago on January 7, 2011, and Aniplex announced that a 10th-anniversary project is underway to celebrate the show. A new website has also gone live to commemorate the ten years since the Madoka Magica anime debuted in Japan. [Thanks, Game Watch.]

The Madoka Magica 10th-anniversary project website shows the anniversary logo and illustrations by the original character designer, Ume Aoki. The website features a special logo made to commemorate the 10th anniversary. It also includes messages from the series creators and voice actors who shared what the anniversary means to them. The website will sequentially add commemorative illustrations received from various illustrators and manga artists.

Scriptwriter Gen Urobuchi, who is known for work including Saya no Uta, Psycho Pass, the light novel and anime Fate/Zero, and even some Fate/Grand Order storylines, shared the following:

10 years. Looking back, it was a turbulent generation. Enough so that we had a life-size Gundam move. It’s becoming more difficult to imagine those days when we didn’t have smartphone games, gacha, or Uber eats.

And even then, the excitement I felt after writing the script and visiting Shaft’s conference room is something that will never fade. And it resulted in something unforgettable that is getting congratulated for its 10th anniversary, and I’m incredibly grateful for that.

And here’s one from Madoka Kaname’s Japanese voice actor Aoi Yuki, who also voices Tsuyu Asui in My Hero Academia and more recently Kotatsu Tamaki in Fire Force:

I’d like to thank you for all of the love you’ve shown Puella Magi Madoka Magica these past ten years. The pounding feeling in my chest when I first met Madoka and the many emotional feelings that I felt when I was performing created the energy that made me the human I am today.

I’m all grown up now, but maybe I’ll find new feelings if I look back. Now I really want to look back. It would make me super happy to have you all continue keeping Puella Magi Madoka Magica in your hearts, too.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is immediately available to watch on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max. Aniplex and Shaft also produced a series of three films based on the anime. The first two movies premiered in October 2012 and the third film that featured new and original work debuted in October 2013. Aniplex of America distributes the Madoka Magica anime and movies in North America.
