When wondering why there are an increasing amount of Mystery Dungeons appearing across the Pokemon world, the protagonist visits Whiscash, the Pokemon Square town elder, for possible answers. Whiscash tells the story of how Mystery Dungeons are said to be connected to environmental shifts, which have happened in the past before, although not to the current extent. Events like sudden blizzards and volcanic eruptions have historically been connected to the appearance of Mystery Dungeons, startling the Pokemon living inside and turning them into enemies.

As for the Kangaskhan Statues found near many Mystery Dungeons, Whiscash explains how you can use them to store and retrieve items. When the protagonist asks why they are shaped like Kangaskhan, Whiscash tells the tale of a Kangaskhan who fainted in a Mystery Dungeon, then decided to sacrifice her life in order to prevent the same thing from happening to others, thus forming the Kangaskhan statue.

However, the Kangaskhan Storage owner comes to berate Whiscash, revealing it to be a tall tale. At the end of the video, it’s revealed that the items are picked up and dropped off there personally by Kangaskhan herself.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be released for the Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2020. Its Japanese preorder bonuses include handkerchiefs. The original games that this game is based upon, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, are available for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, respectively.
