Pokemon GO Fest 2020 Will Be a Virtual Affair

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

With everything going on in the world, Niantic has been gradually adjusting Pokemon GO so it can still be a valid experience in a time when people are encouraged to remain socially distant and not spend much time in public places around large groups of people. The latest change will influence its global Pokemon GO Fest experiences. Instead of being held in different places at different times, Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will be held everywhere at once, virtually, on July 25-26, 2020.

Niantic made the announcement via its official blog. Details about what will happen and a schedule aren’t available. However, the company did express that there will be tickets sold, with those who get them able to participate on both days of the event. They’ll have Special Research tasks and different Pokemon encounters than normal people playing.

This comes after multiple in-person events were canceled or delayed by the pandemic. Community days and Safari Zones were held off. For a brief time, 1 PokeCoin bundles of items were sold. Even events and a raid from home feature were implemented, to help maintain the idea of the experience without forcing people to risk their health. Most recently, people were even given a way to earn PokeCoins without heading to gyms.

Pokemon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
