While the rest of the world won’t see the PlayStation Vita until 2012, Japan is getting the device this year.

The Vita will launch in Japan on December 17th, Sony just announced at their ongoing press conference in Tokyo. It’ll be available in 3G/Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi (only) models. Sony will partner with Japanese service provider NTT Docomo for the device’s 3G service.

NTT Docomo are coming up with a new subscription plan for the Vita. A 20-hour pre-paid plan will cost 980 yen (close to $13), while a 100-hour pre-paid plan will cost 4,980 yen (about $65). Keep in mind that rates for the U.S. and Europe will be different.
