Some PlayStation 4 accessories will be compatible with the PlayStation 5. The official PlayStation Blog answered questions about which accessories will be available to use interchangeably between both systems. However, the list isn’t very detailed, but does give consumers an idea of what is and isn’t compatible between the PlayStation consoles.

As it stands, the following accessories will be compatible between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles:

  • Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.
  • The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).
  • The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.
  • Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

The official PlayStation blog mentions that not all officially licensed PlayStation or third-party accessories will be compatible with the PlayStation 5. They go on to say that they recommend checking with the manufacturer of the accessory in question if it will be available to use with the PlayStation 5.

Additionally, they go on to mention that Dualshock 4 will not work with PlayStation 5 games. This is due to the fact that they would like consumers to take full advantage of the features that will be available with the upcoming DualSense wireless controller. However, those with a PlayStation 4 Camera will be able to use their Camera with the PlayStation 5. An adapter will be needed to use the Camera between systems however. More details will be released in relation to the PlayStation Camera in the future.

The PlayStation 5 will be released in time for the 2020 holiday season. Consumers will be given notice before the PlayStation 5 will be available for pre-order.
