Nintendo works in mysterious ways; doubly so when a global pandemic is closing businesses down and disrupting everyone’s marketing plans. We’ve already reported on how Nintendo (and the rest of Japan) is reportedly struggling to adapt to working from home, as well as rumors pertaining to a bunch of Super Mario releases. The May 14, 2020 Paper Mario: The Origami King reveal confirms at least one aspect of those rumors. A report on it has tacked a new nugget of rumor onto the stack. Along with some number of Mario remasters, we may also soon hear about a Pikmin 3 Switch port called Pikmin 3 Deluxe. [Thanks, VentureBeat!]
This comes from VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, who tacked the bit on the alleged Pikmin 3 Switch port to the bottom of his Paper Mario: The Origami King announcement coverage. Grub was one of the original corroborators for previous leaky Nintendo news, so it’s worth taking a look at the Pikmin part of it as well. This should be treated as rumor for now, as there is no evidence yet, but it seems like, mostly due to the COVID-19 situation, what would have been Nintendo’s plans for E3 may be a bit less well-hidden.
Pikmin 3 was originally released on the Wii U, which didn’t exactly do much for its numbers. So it makes since that it would join the ranks of all the other Wii U ports, which have proven to be effective ways to pad out the Switch’s library.
