Sega’s Phantasy Star will have an original soundtrack in vinyl format for the first time. Ship to Shore PhonoCo will open pre-orders for the Phantasy Star vinyl soundtrack on its website on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 2 PM ET.
Ship to Shore PhonoCo’s tweet previewed Tokuhiko Uwabo’s title theme as one of the tracks in the soundtrack. The Phantasy Star vinyl will include both PSG and FM Synth versions of the tracks.
Phantasy Star appeared as a single-player RPG on Sega Master System in the late 1980s. It tells the story of Alis Landale, who goes on an adventure around three planets to fight against the star system’s king, Lassic. The company later ported the game to Sega Saturn and Game Boy Advance. It also released a remake titled Phantasy Star Generation:1 for PlayStation 2 in Japan in 2003.
The series is recently known more for its online game adaptations. The most recent title, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, launched worldwide on PC and consoles like Xbox One and Xbox Series X in June 2021. Sega will release a major update adding a new explorable region called Kvaris around the game’s first anniversary in June 2022.
The original Master System version of Phantasy Star is available worldwide on Nintendo Switch via the Sega Ages series.
