Paradox Interactive announced that it canceled Life By You. Life By You was going to be a life simulation game akin to the The Sims series.
In a message on the Paradox Forum, Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja explained and apologized for the situation. It starts by acknowledging that it was a difficult decision and that Paradox failed to meet both its and the community’s expectations. In order to make the game fit their original vision for it, the developers chose to delay it twice. It also held off on Early Access release due to the game “lacking in some key areas,” and the roadmap to a release version it would be confident in was too long and difficult. Life by You was promising and had its strengths, but it decided to stop development since even more time on it would not help them reach a version it would be satisfied with.
Most of the comments agreed with Paradox Interactive’s decision. Some stated that it’s better to cancel it rather than putting more pressure on developers. Others noted that they weren’t surprised because of how silent the social media presences were for the game.
An announcement trailer for Life By You came out a year ago. Like The Sims 3, it featured an open-world design and allowed you to follow your characters to work and shop. Some Sims games featured these options, but they were in expansion packs or you needed to go to another lot (through a loading screen).
Life By You will no longer appear on the Windows PC, as development on it has stopped.
