Overwatch 2 was announced during BlizzCon 2019. The reveal was kicked off with an announcement showing some of the people who will be returning to the team. An eight minute video gives people an idea of what to expect. It will still be a team 6v6 competitive game. Also, it will bring Echo and Sojourn to the fight.
A new trailer was shared during BlizzCon 2019. It begins with Mei, Tracer, and Winston heading to Paris. A Null Sector attack is going on, and they appear to be the only three members of Overwatch heading on this mission. However, a huge robot attacks, injuring Mei. With things looking bleak, Winston agrees to stay behind and hold the line while Tracer gets her to safety. That’s when Genji shows up to save the day, as do other heroes like Reinhardt, Brigitte, Echo, and Mercy.
Here is the full Overwatch 2 Zero Hour cinematic sequence. It is eight minutes long.
In addition, an Overwatch 2 gameplay trailer was shared. It features plenty of story segments, looks at hero missions that involve co-op, and the return of characters like Lucio and Zenyatta. It also reveals new abilities, like character leveling and battle customization. A new PVP mode, called Push, was revealed and involves a character who is “good at pushing things.” Lots of PvE content will appear, including story missions. (Rio de Janeiro will be the first story mission.) Sojourn was also revealed as a new heroine. Toronto is the first new map, and is the first Canada map.
A new Overwatch “The Story so Far” trailer was also shared as a refresher. It offers an overview of all the heroes of the game coming together again, with Wilson offering the call to action.
Details about moving from Overwatch to the sequel. Current players will get to play with all of the same heroes and the same maps as Overwatch 2 players. It will be a shared multiplayer environment. All cosmetics will also come forward.
Overwatch 2 is in development. The Rio de Janeiro PvE story map and Toronto PvP map were playable at BlizzCon 2019.
