Over 200,000 People Have Already Bought Nintendo’s New StreetPass Games

In Japan and Europe, Nintendo recently added four new games to the Nintendo 3DS’ StreetPass Mii Plaza. The catch is that these games aren’t free—they’re paid downloads, with each one costing £4.49/€4.99.

That doesn’t appear to be holding them back, though. At a recent meeting with shareholders, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that over 200,000 3DS owners have bought at least one of the four games by June 23rd.

“We employed no mass-media advertising so we think we are off to a good start,” Iwata shared with attendees. “I think that products like these ones will provide new business opportunities for Nintendo in the future.”

To be more specific, Nintendo are looking at the idea of releasing StreetPass games that are deeper than the free Find Mii and Puzzle Swap games available in the StreetPass Plaza on 3DS.

“Previously we had a puzzle-piece collecting game and a very simple RPG game called ‘Find Mii’ on offer, but after two years on the market, we knew that those who had experienced every aspect of these two games wanted something new,” Iwata said.

“In a way, we have until now been trying to create an environment in users can experience the StreetPass feature, so our objective was to create something that was simple and easy to understand. But we feel that the next step for us to take is to create games that are deeper, and we have actually been working on them for quite some time.”
