Glumberland has revealed that there will be only one online store where people can get Ooblets at launch. The PC version game will be available exclusively through Epic Game Store for a period of time. After that ends, it will head to other distribution services.
In exchange for the arrangement, Epic Games has provided Glumberland with money upfront to help develop Ooblets and made a minimum sales guarantee that assures the development team that they would still stay afloat even if the game isn’t a success. This means the game will now have the resources necessary to put more effort into it. As noted in the update by Ben Wasser, “We’ve only ever had the resources for just one programmer, Rebecca [Cordingley], who makes everything. And she also does most of the art, UI, and other stuff on the game.” When talking about the deal, he also said, “Now we can just focus on making the game without worrying about keeping the lights on. The upfront money [Epic is] providing means we’ll be able to afford more help and resources to start ramping up production and doing some cooler things.”
Ooblets is a simulation game with hints of Pokemon-like creature collecting. Players will come to a farm they can customize, where they’ll get to grow plants and new creatures called ooblets. They can then use the ooblets they have grown and collected to engage in dance battles.
Ooblets is in development for the PC and Xbox One.
