If you pay a visit to the digital storefronts for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor on PSN, Microsoft, and Steam, you will see a message that signals the end of some of the game’s online features.

The text begins with a line that reads, “Note: certain features for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor video game will no longer be available beginning Dec. 31, 2020.” It then lists the affected features.

For starters, the game will lose its Nemesis Forge feature, meaning players won’t be able to transfer their Nemeses from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor to its sequel, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. ‪The Nemesis system is one in which an enemy can be promoted through the ranks and become a, well, nemesis for the player. They are unique to the player, and become progressively more powerful.

Additionally, the Vendetta missions, Leaderboards, and WBPlay will also lose functionality. All players will be automatically awarded with the epic runes “Orc Hunter” and “Gravewalker” to compensate for the loss of WBPlay.

Meanwhile, Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be joining Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition as part of the PlayStation Plus November lineup. The PlayStation 4 versions of these games will be free to subscribers.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and Mac.
